S01E11 – Anything But Therapy

Episode 11.

With every good intention of sending this episode on time, one simple phone call – and my inability to say no to a new experience – means I’m once again cutting into my sleep time. I’m trying hard not to make it a habit. We’ll see next week. On the bright side, I got to photograph my first opera in Cankarjev dom. Tricky work, but I think I did a good job.

Since Episode 10 was mostly about whisky, I briefly considered making this one entirely food-related. The draft quickly grew beyond any reasonable newsletter length, so that will become a separate post. My visit to France this past weekend was short, but filled with happiness, and I’m looking forward to sharing most of it.

Do The Thing

A small preview? A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon an Instagram post from one of my favourite street food vendors in Toulouse. Looking at my calendar – and noticing there were no free weekends left until late August – I booked a flight and spent a memorable day and a half in what felt like paradise. Sadly, that meant missing Sir William’s pub birthday party. Happy birthday, guys. I wish I were there.

PS: Tomorrow (Tuesday the 3rd), the Vitamin Well Running Club meets at 5 PM for a 30-minute run. Good company, easy pace. Meeting point: PST parking lot. Do The Thing.

Didn’t Do The Thing

The website still isn’t updated. That said, I did manage to cover two great events last week – galleries coming soon. Thursday?

  • :Projekt’s Workshop on English and Belgian beer with Andrej Colarič
  • Če bi stene govorile, event by Društvo SOS telefon

Don’t be like me. Do The Thing.

Highlights Of The Week

  • Not one, but two photo exhibitions coming up in Ljubljana. Opening dates are set – consider this an informal invite.
    • 26th March
    • 15th February, 2027
  • Ate the best Tiramisu of my life.
  • Ran a relatively easy sub-90 half-marathon despite the injury and questionable training.
  • Cheese.
Tiramisu, Taste Coffee and more, Treviso

Low-darks Of The Week

  • Hofer on Dunajska cesta
Once one of my favourite morning stops: doors open at 7:30, great staff, quick in and out. Recently? Opening at 8 “for the customers”, one register open, 20+ people in line, waiting 10 minutes if you’re lucky – assuming the bakery even has anything in stock/left. Sad.
  • A1 network blackout
Landed in France, and my phone simply wouldn’t connect. No signal, no explanation. Eventually figured out what was happening and installed an eSIM just to find the hotel. Who pushes code to production late on a Friday? Inconvenient.

Song Of The Week

Continuing with the classics and items on top of my favourites list – this week it’s AC/DC and Ride On. Bon Scott at his best. What a voice.

Album? Coming back home to Before Time‘s freshly released Vse Kar Smo. Can’t wait to hear it live.

#zahranogre

A slightly grumpy start this week, but still a few solid recommendations.

Restavracija Cucina

Very solid Neapolitan pizza on Celovška. Prices are a bit steeper, the tiramisu wasn’t the best, and I was still waiting for that glass of water – good overall, but I expected more.

Zanoodle

Delicious noodles and fusion dishes with bold but balanced flavours. I’ve loved every visit until last week. The main dish was still excellent, but the dessert – along with the service and presentation – felt a bit underwhelming. Maybe I’m nitpicking, but again… I expected more.

:Projekt

Unlocked a small personal achievement: three days straight at a bar – for good reason. Great service, great recommendations, and yes, the fresh popcorn deserves another mention.

This Saturday, Pulfer Brewery is taking over the taps (and one of the fridges), which should be interesting. Next week: another workshop, this time focused on hoppy beers. I love what the team is doing with the place!

Sladoledarna

When in Koper, it’s a must. Peanut stracciatella, dark chocolate with chilli and raspberries. February or not – it hit the spot.

El Toro Steak House

Right next to Sladoledarna, a family-run steak house that clearly cares about loyal and curious customers. They know their meat, the service is warm, and the prices are fair. Recommended.

That’s Episode 11. Thanks for staying along.
See you next Monday.
