S01E05 – Anything But Therapy

Episode 5.

Due to a broken toe and a doctor-advised sick leave, this week’s Anything But Therapy is postponed. Hah. Just kidding.

Sadly, not about the broken pinky toe, but just about postponing Episode 5 – I can still type. Yesterday’s visit to ER’s X-ray confirmed a fracture, courtesy of an early-morning door kicking. Pro tip: turn on the lights, even for a short toilet visit. Sigh.

New year, same old me. I started the year with a private review of the past one, outlining a few plans and goals for 2026. No dramatic resolutions, but I did buy myself a small stack of books to read and listen to over the next weeks. Good timing, apparently. I’m advised against walking much, riding a bike, swimming, or doing anything that involves two functioning legs.

The first was Tadej Pogačar: Unstoppable by Andy McGrath – an audiobook I went through during two longer trainer sessions. A great refresher on Slovenia’s golden era of cycling and an additional extended perspective.

That said, I didn’t enjoy the narration. Slovene isn’t an easy language, and while Elliot Chapman clearly tried, it fell apart in places. I’ll probably enjoy the hardcover more.

Currently in progress: Not Another F*cking Whisky Book by Mitch Bechard. No audiobook this time and I do like the tone much more so far. The only drawback – circling back to my broken bones – the doctor’s recommendation to avoid alcohol while healing the skeleton. A dram can’t hurt, right?

I’ll stop blabbering here, with two links loosely related to all of the above:

I published my first whisky-related post on the website, and I gathered all concerts from 2025 into a single list. Not great, not terrible.

Do The Thing

The next ~21 days will be more about not doing the thing. Which, on day one, is already proving difficult. I did take the time to lay out a recovery plan: exercises I can do, and a strict, calorie-limited meal plan. Sigh.

Highlight(s) Of The Week

  • New cycling FTP on Zwift
  • Jack Black singing War Pigs – Link
    • Stealing a comment from under the video: “This guy is a good singer. He should form a band. He is so tenacious.”
  • Ms. Anita from Kompas Shop customers support
  • Homemade Norwegian waffles.

Let-down(s) Of The Week

  • Skipping this section today. Happy beeps.

Song Of The Week

Soen’s new album Reliance is finally out. A couple of recent singles set the bar high – and the album delivers. Today’s pick is the latest single, Indifferent.

That said, the full album is well worth your time.

#zahranogre

Last week involved a lot of eating out, so here’s a quick recap.

Kebab Bros

Already one of my favourite kebab spots in Ljubljana, but the jufka wrap with sweet corn, pickles, and cheese made my entire Tuesday. Massive portion, perfectly balanced, and easily one of the best jufkas I’ve had in a long time.

Projekt Piverija

Expanded my sour beer knowledge with Seaman by Vinohradský pivovar and Borovničev štrudelj by Clef Brewery, both on draft. Excellent beers, made even better with fresh popcorn on the side.

Raw Pasta

Their Amatriciana remains one of those reliable gems that always scratch the “I wish I was in Italy” itch. Same goes for pizza by Rok Bučar.

Bombina

A small bistro hidden in Trbovlje offers a perfect excuse for a weekend trip. Homey, well-thought-out menu, genuinely warm service, and a carefully selected wine list. Worth the drive.

That’s Episode 5. Thanks for reading.
See you next Monday.
