S01E01 – Anything But Therapy

Episode 1.

Following the surprisingly positive feedback on last week’s Pilot, Season 1 is officially underway. I consider it a constant reminder in the back of my head and a daily nudge to reflect for a few minutes and update my draft.

It’s working. But let’s not celebrate too early. I’ve barely started.

December continues, and with it, my internal struggle not to express opinions is reaching its limit, so here we go.

  • Whose Photo Is This, Anyway?
A longer rant, so I’ll spare your inbox and just link it here.
  • Spotify Wrapped? Strava Wrapped?
Dear people, it’s mid-December. The year isn’t over yet. Please, stop.

While working on the posts above, I realised I still haven’t published my 2024 blog post. I should probably finish that before starting the 2025 draft. It is coming, though.

I also managed to upload a few photo galleries to the website (still missing some). If you feel like browsing, here are the direct links:

Online version

Each newsletter is published as an identical post on my website. “Identical” lasts until there is a typo, I want to add context, or sneak in a photo or two. Emails are permanent. Websites forgive.

PSA: I don’t run ads. I don’t promote things I don’t use or believe in.

Everything mentioned on my website and/or this newsletter is something I enjoy, use, eat, drink, visit or wear. No paid placements. This isn’t a review platform or another ad board, but a record of personal interests, habits, and things I (don’t) enjoy.

Transparency and integrity matter more than free stuff, reach, or exposure. If you think we could do something together, you know where to find me.

Do The Thing

I might have forgotten to mention this in the Pilot episode, but I finally shaved my moustache. A conscious, but not the easiest decision, made back in mid-September. I think it was the right call.

For now.

Highlight(s) Of The Week

  • Vlado Kreslin messaged me after his Cankarjev dom show to compliment my work. Still processing that.
  • Zero81’s Scarpetta. Fried pizza with San Marzano slow-cooked sauce, Parmigiano Reggiano, basil, and olive oil.
  • Down 1.5 kg since the San Sebastián marathon, same power on Zwift. Higher W/kg feels good.
  • Confirmed work with Gliste in January. Excited.

Let-down(s) Of The Week

Let’s stay positive, and set a rule – the number of highlights must always equal or exceed the let-downs. Life will find a way to break this rule, I reckon, but I will do my best to stay on top of it.

Song Of The Week

Couldn’t decide between Kje si ti? by Dan D and Tečen by Emkej, so this week goes to Samo diši by Podočnjaci.

Food aka. #zahranogre section

I could talk about food for another hour, but here’s the short version.

Recommended

  • Zero81, Gorizia (IT) – exceptional quality, price, and experience. Exceeded high expectations. 9/10
  • Kovač, Ljubljana (Tomačevo) – my go-to for anything potatoes, fried frog legs and a proper green peppercorn steak, combined with a great wine selection. A bit disappointed by the rest of the appetisers and desserts, especially given their high price points, but the steak was heavenly and done to perfection. 8/10
  • Antonač, Bojanji Vrh (Ivančna Gorica) – surprised with a more affordable, but yet delicious steak dinner, Zeleni Silvanec from Frelih winery and carefully crafted and thought-out ‘Honey’ dessert. 8.5/10

Avoid

  • Kotnik, Kranjska Gora – long waiting time despite placing an order in advance, incoherent service, excessively salted food and generally poor experience. The only positive was colouring the graphic in front of me for 80 minutes – pencils were provided – 4/10.
  • Piadineria La Sosta, Gorizia (IT) – as a huge fan of piadinas, I was excited about the visit, but high expectations from Treviso and Rimini possibly ruined most of the Piadinerias for me. Fairly priced with friendly service, but sub-par ingredients that didn’t scratch an itch, accompanied by the absence of plates and a cold interior – OK-ish, but I won’t be back – 6/10.

Happy Biftek week to everyone who celebrates. I know I will.
