Almost a month passed since the acoustic gig at Špica in Ljubljana and I was in serious need of a good concert. It was the first day of short summer ‘vacation’ and it started early in Ljubljana city centre. First, I needed to get my camera back from the shop, as it required some minor repairs after nasty fall in Koper previous week. Fotospeed camera strap, I blame you!
Second, I finally decided to invest in high quality custom earplugs, so I had to rush to the other side of the city to make a mold for the final product. Funny feeling, when they inject your ears with cold gel-like-thingy. Neuroth employees were really nice and hopefully, I’ll get the earplugs soon. Always being late, the reminder on my phone was getting pretty unpleasant. The band should meet at 9 AM, and luckily the traffic wasn’t as bad as expected – so, for once, I arrived on time.
We filmed (well, I took pictures) a video for the upcoming gig and shortly after, we regrouped in Detroit. As Alex and I arrived, the van was almost packed & ready to go. Day was getting hotter and we had a long drive to Gora Rocka, even longer, as we successfully missed the exit on the freeway. Upon arrival, the procedure was pretty standard. Unpack, prepare for soundcheck, soundcheck, dinner & relax before the show.
It was the first day of the festival and the visitors were putting up tents, as the first band started playing. I was really excited, when I noticed the guy behind the light. It was Črt Birsa and I just knew we’re in for a treat tonight.
The lineup for the day was:
- Super Action Heroes
- Hamo & Tribute 2 Love
- Steve ‘N’ Seagulls
I was really impressed with the first group, as they all wore costumes while performing. It was warm outside, even in the shadows with a cold beer in hands, but jumping on a stage in padded plastic clothes – respect. I took some photos, but mainly just to prepare for the next performance – it was highly anticipated gig, not just for me, but also for the band. I wanted to give more than my best, because I knew the guys will do the same. They did, I on the other hand, could do better – Črt saved my ass a couple of times. Thank you!
After the concert we watched the “YouTube sensation” Steve ‘N’ Seagulls as they rocked the stage. I’m usually not impressed with bands playing only cover songs, but this guys were really creative and all hats down for them. The amount of instruments and performance itself was a unique experience. Even though I was exhausted after a long day, I took some photographs during the show and they even featured one of them on their Facebook page. Thank you guys. Means a lot!
We returned to Ljubljana the next day and, instead of much needed sleep, it was time to edit the photographs, as I was leaving for Salzburg the same evening. Long exciting weekend ahead!
